Hello my name is Lloyd Clifton and I am pleased to have the opportunity to serve as the President of the Udora Leaskdale Lions Club at this time. Lions Club International is the world’s largest service organization with 1,4 million members in over 200 countries worldwide.
I have been a Lion for 39 years and have served in five different Lions Clubs in four different provinces. I have been a member of the Udora Leaskdale Lions Club since 1997. In 2013-2014 Lions year I had the privilege to serve as District Governor.
The club was formed to serve the community in 1980. We currently have 26 members, one of whom has been a member of the club since it was formed.
Over the year the club has been involved in the construction and maintenance of the community centre. We recently supported the building of the pavilion. Once again, this year we will be maintaining a skating rink in Udora.
One of the main focuses of Lions International is vision care and sight restoration. Internationally the Lions are also involved is supporting childhood cancer, and diabetes. Our club is involved in both these projects.
We are thankful for the support the community has shown for our various fund-raising activities. All monies raised go to support community service projects. The members themselves pay for all costs associated with administering the club.
Unfortunately, because of COVID-19 most of our fund raising activities have had to be put on hold. We have also had to cancel some of our service projects, Halloween in the park, and Breakfast with Santa for example. We will not be able to deliver poinsettias to those in hospital.
We continue to serve the community as we are able. If you would like more information about our club including how to join, please visit https://udoraleaskdalelionsclub.ca/contact-us/
