President's Message 2016 - 2017

Greetings to all! Welcome to the annual message of the president of Udora/Leaskdale Lions Club. My name is Chris Brunne and I have been a resident of Leaskdale, along with my wife, Laura, and our three children for going on 16 years. Having been raised in Uxbridge, I am very familiar with the surrounding communities.

I always told my Lions sponsor that when my hockey executive days were done, Lions was definitely in my future. And here I am a few years later, President, and with great pride I might add. Lions are such an integral part of the community in the many tasks, events and services we offer, yet we almost blend in with the surroundings as we go about our business. This year raising our public profile is high on the list of things we wish to accomplish. Our goal is not to just wave the flag, rather the opposite, to bring awareness to not only the projects and services close our hearts but close to those of our communities and their residents. Our Leaskdale presence has been growing lately but we would like to increase our membership there, which we feel that having one of our two monthly meetings at the Historic Leaskdale Church should encourage residents to come and visit us in our natural habitat. Becoming a Lion is a simple process and totally at the pace of the prospective new member. You can enjoy the socializing, club and community business at your own comfort level. I know you are out there, please join us for dinner and find out what Lionism is all about.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention our monthly Spaghetti Dinners which are a resounding success thanks to the efforts of all Lions. It is encouraging for us that the dinner has become a community social event. A great spaghetti dinner and musical entertainment at the best price in town!

Having had recent health issues reminds me all too clearly that we have truly incredible support systems in our community that we sometimes take for granted. I, for one, will remind myself and others of the need to think about and support these resources, when and wherever we can. We’re all in this together, so we might as well help one another along the way by sharing and enjoying our neighbours’ successes and make as many of our tasks fun and enjoyable with a friendly social outlook.

Wilkins Family Fund Raiser

The Udora Leaskdale Lions club is hosting a benefit dance this Saturday, October 3rd, for the Wilkins family, long-time Udora residents whose home was lost in a fire.  All proceeds will go toward a building fund to help them replace their home. UPDATE: Thanks to all who came out and supported the Wilkins family! the fund raiser was a great success and a sum of approximately $ 7,500 was raised.  We also wish to thank those that contributed to our silent auction for their generous contribution.
